700r4 transmission fit in our cars?
Hi,
I have herd tell of this tranny being able to fit with a lil pounding, but I just wanted to make sure before I went ahead and bought the tranny that it would fit in there no problem.
I am looking for a tranny thatll hold around 750rwhp, and have talked to a builder that said he has one, I just want to make sure itll fit.
Also where to get a torque converter fro this kind of application??
There are people that use regular SBC converters in these cars, but I dont think thats a great idea is it?
Any one?
Thanks

A 4L60e is just an electronic 700r4. I don't think it will hold that type of power for too long. It should fit in easily. I did a 4l80e and didn't have to pound anything but a notch for the main electrical plug. I heard the 200r4 holds good power also with less weight. You can get a converter through almost any of the converter companies.

Well the guy claims that the tranny is good to around 1000hp, he says that he has a few customer that are running this kind of power currently and racing theirs cars, and they are not having a problem.
It comes with a 1 year, unlimited mile warranty as well.
on the converter though, will a verter built for the stock tranny work with this setup then? If I get or have a verter for a 4l60e, i can just interchange it with the 700r4 if they are the same basic tranny correct?
Thanks

Well that figures, so is there someone that makes the converter for a LS1.
What exactly is different about a ls1 converter, compared to a traditional converter?
From what I have seen there really isnt much, im just wanting to have this verified.
THanks

hey
Hey the shafts for the two are differant, on the 700r4/early 4l60e the input shaft had clutch feed seal on the very end of the shaft...on the ls1 the shaft was designed with the seal to the rear of the splines...not sure if this helps but I tried....Dave

A converter is not made based on what parts you have in the tranny. It is more a question of total car setup. Meaning how much power, what rpm is the power band, gearing, car weight and intended use. I would say the lighter the car the more power you can get away with on the same tranny. That is why those cars may be surviving on the 700r4. There is more load on the tranny if you go from a 2800 lb car to a 3600 lb car and will smoke the tranny much quicker.
