Thumbs down Tranny getting stuck in 2nd

Just about every time I do a burnout and it shifts through the gears during then roll up to the line a freak thing happens. I go to footbreak it and if I go past 3000rpm it leaves the line in 2nd and stays in second all the way down the track so I have to let off before it hits the rev limiter.

I tested it and I don't think the burnout has that much to do with the problem. It seems like if I stall it past 2900-3000 it gets stuck in 2nd gear. I have talked to the guy who built the tranny and he said it was a tuning issue. Then I talked to the tuner and he said it was a tranny issue.

This is really starting to **** me off since I have a 4800 stall and can only leave the line at 3000rpm. My 60' is really suffering

Any insite on what is going on guys and possible ways to fix it?

The problem is a tranny code called limp home mode (PO705 I think) there are a coupe of them that work to gether to create this problem. It is set when you stall the car over 3000 rpm for over 3-5 seconds. It's a speed differential related safety mode that can be deleted with custom tuning. I used to get it all the time and it's hard on the tranny so once you know it's launching in second, be sure to back off and chalk it up for a wasted run. You can just pull over turn the key off for a few seconds and it will reset for you.

I just started launching at a slightly lower rpm until I could get it deletely permanently. I hope this helps you. Good luck!

BTW-you might not have alight on , but those codes should come up if you scan the car. Be sure to write them down so you will have them to refer back to them for the tuner.

It's not a tranny issue.

Wow, this happens to all the LS1s if you stall it at 3000 rpm for 3-5 sec? That sucks.

I think TX is right on the money. I've had it happen before too. Only had 2nd gear. I cleared the code and has ran perfect ever since. I think you can disable it. Maybe just turn the code off?

TTT I had the same problem today. Had the shifter in first though so the tranny couldn't shift to the other gears. Tires wouldn't spin, would a line lock fix the issue?
