Default limits of a 3500 stall

does anyone have any guidelines i can use? i want to custom grind a cam on a 112 lsa, but i don't want to exceed the use of a 3500 stall. from what i've seen, 236 is about the most duration (@ .050) that i can have without needing a larger stall. any ideas?

It just depends on the powerband of the cam in question. I ran the MS3 (237/242 on a 113) on a 3500 for several months and it drove perfectly fine even though it was too large for the converter when it came to getting the most out of it at WOT.

Why do you want a cutom grind, and why on a 112 specifically?

Do you have bolt-ons such as exhaust going in with or before the cam?

Read the cam guide in the inernal section if you havn't already, and search around. FM13 comes to mind as a very popular grind that shouldn't be too large.

yeah, i've got a multitude of bolt-ons including exhaust going on the car before the cam. i want something on a 112 lsa for the low end tq, and i want to custom grind something because all of the cams i've found with less than borderline lift all have 240+ duration. the tsp 233/239 doesn't look bad, or maybe the torquer...if the g5x3 wasn't so close on lift i'd probably go with it (on 114 lsa, though). i know cams and how they work, but i am not familiar with the limits of the stall.

If you go with a G5X-3 put it on a 112. I have it on a 114 with a pt4000 stall. I think I might need a bigger convertor for this cam.

The only thing about going with a G5X3 on a 112 is that it's highly recommended you degree the cam upon installation. The PTV clearance is very close. It used to be said that you couldn't even do the X3 on a 112, my guess is that lou didn't want people to have problems with it so originall told people it couldn't be done. Since you're an A4 you won't have to worry about missing shifts at least.

I run a 232/240 cam with this converter. A lot of it is in the tuning. If you look around, you will see people running large cams with smaller stalls. Of course, I would like a bit of a larger stall, but it still runs pretty damn good, and streetability gets better.
