any one ever heard of doing a custom stall converter? if so is it worth it compared to buying a ready made stall? guy says he can do one for $600 to my specs of the car.. i also heard on TCI their lock up goes out pretty quick. doesnt this make the converter useless? what am i better off doing?

Losing lockup does not make the converter useless. Just have higher rpm while cruising around.
They have fixed that issue, anyway.
Based on what you have posted I can't help but to recommend one of the big three (PI, yank, TCI) on this board vs "some guy" making you one. A custom stall would come in more handy if you knew EXACTLY what you wanted and an off the shelf didn't cover it. Even then, I'm sure Kevin at TCI could hook you up with something.

Based on the general rule of thumb with converters and my first/second hand experience, go 3500. Don't settle for "good enough" or "big enough" on the converter, go bigger. The VAST majority of people that aren't sure what they want either wish they went higher or DO go higher. TCI SSF3500 sounds like a good fit.

So it sounds like to me that you guys are saying a 3500 stall is great for someone who eiter has (or wants) a cam upgrade and still wants to use it as a daily driver...
Am I correct in assuming this?

I agree. Don't buy a stall that is "good enough" with what you have now. Plan for the future. I was told by a speed shop a 3200 would be plenty. Thanks to this site I went with a 3800 and it worked much better for me. Now I'm up to a 4000.

I have a 3200, and wish it were around 3600 now that I have the cam.
