shifting an automatic
ok well i have a question about when you shift a automatic transmission how are they suppose to shift are they suppose to go right into gear or is there a hesitant spot and then it does, it only does it when i stomp it and shift from 1st to 2nd. i wanted to see what it was like and it takes off fine and gets up good but are u suppose to let off the gas or what b.c it took like a second or two to go into the next gear. but it shifts fine when in Drive and Overdrive.

You need to modify your shift points/pressure/RPM and it helps to delete the Torque Management.
The computer can/will shift the tranny more quickly/consistantly than you ever could by shifting manually...

i think its more for the fun factor, car is a little more fun to drive. Shiftkit and programming will do wonders for you. If your just messing around on the street than fine, if your trying to race it and do the shifting you will be slower than if you left it in drive or od..

oh i wasnt racing i was just wondering what it was like u know it gets boring just sittin there not doin anything, only real drawback to an automatic is not shifting. and which pics up better off the line D or Over Drive??? ive noticed that D shifts harder but overdrive shifts real smooth and just wondering which one is the one you want to use in a race?

yea see thats what i was talking about, more fun to drive. I know i do it too. As far as racing goes it really doesnt matter if its in 3rd or 4th. Only time it would really matter is if you were just about to cross the finish line and your trans shifts to 4th. It will slow your times down if it hits fourth gear due to it being a taller gear and harder for the motor to turn. Wont really matter in your case since your running 3.73's. I would imagine 4.10's would put it real close to shifting to 4th right at the finish line...

Use Ed Wright at www.fastchip.com for computer issues, one of the best. The "modified' Trans-Go Performance Shift kit is the way to go on these units. If you are running out of gear, and you need to shift to 4th gear, do it, it will not slow down. You just don't want the torque converter to lockup, that will slow you down, in the majority of cases.
