Default locking problem

What actually controls the converter and tells it to lock? I've posted before about my problem, but I still havn't figured it out. My converter will not lock when the tranny temperature is over 150 degrees. It locks and unlocks perfectly when it is under 150, but soon as it gets to it, it will not lock. I want to know what controls this locking. I've been told by a lot of people that I need to get it tuned, but I contacted Ion at madz28.com and he said that tuning wouldn't fix the problem because locking is not controlled by temperature. This converter is a Racing Edge 3800 Lock up which was taken out of my friends car who had no problems with it locking up, he had a 94 z28. I'm completly stumped as to what would allow it to lock up when its under that temperature, and then not lock as soon as it gets above it. Could my tranny be bad? Could the converter be bad, even though we just pulled it out of my friends car? Any help would be greatly appreciated

Default hey

Listen up..from what I see your putting a 1994 transmission into a 1997 car, two completely differant stratagies...these trannys are as fallows 93-94 non pwm 95 stand alone/pwm tcc ... 96-present pwm tcc.You can't put a 94 into a 97 car...you'll see the pins are 12 on the 93-94 and 13 on all the others..hope this helps ......Dave

I must have mistyped something. I did not put the tranny from the 94z, just the converter from it. The converters are interchangable for any lt1 4l60e so i've been told. Thanks.

Thanks, but the temp sender is brand new and is working fine. Any other ideas?

Mine does the exact same. Locks all day long until I stop at a light, then will not lock again until the trans is 100% cool again. I replaced the solenoids, convertor, temperature sender, I'm stumped also.

It will lock and unlock fine when the temp is under 150. I was just saying that it could be locked, but then the temp gets over 150 and I have to slow down or speed up and it unlocks, and then it should just lock right back up, but it doesn't. Won't lock up again until the temp is under 150.
