Default Shift Kit or Tuning

I just installed a TCI 3500 and the transmission shifts a lot softer. Which should I do: shift kit or tuning?

I'd say shift kit because it has parts that achieve things that tuning alone can't.

I would recommend the TransGo shift kit. My car went from soft (read slipping) shifts to leaving rubber on the asphalt on the 1-2 shifts. And the shifts, although firm, are still quite decent (not harsh).
My tuner agreed, it was the better choice.

I like my tuning. Shifts real strong from 1-2 (read barks tires) and pretty good going into 3rd.

i would say to do the tune now, and to do the shift kit well you have the tranny built (if you are going to have it built). with a tune and a few bolt ons (no converter) i was spinning the tires on the 1-2 shift with nittos drag radials. there is really only so hard you can have a tranny shift before you start to do real damge and a good tune can easily achive that. plus the tune will give you other benifits besides firmer shifting. just my .02 though.

I think I would agree with this, but let me rephrase it:

"Get the tune and the shift kit, but don't let the tuner firm up your shifts. Leave that to the shift kit. If you get a shift kit AND have the tuner raise line pressure too much for your tranny, you'll fry it in no time."

I think some of the big transmission guys on the site have all agreed that the way to do it is the shift kit. A tune can only raise line pressure, and even then, it can't do it for wide-open throttle. A shift kit can do this, plus it lengthens the life of your tranny.

Once again: Go for the shift kit.
