Default is there a tranny with more gears?

Was wondering if there was a tranny that had more gears but was still a auto, like maybe a A6 or somthing?! 3 or 4 gears seam to be not enough for what i want to do, I want a turbo setup with gears big enough to blast down the freeway and not be revving it to the redline. but still strong enough to hold for a long time!! Thanks in advance!

GM is going to do a a6 in 6l60e and 6l80e versions. It will use it's own computer but still need powertrain info from the other computer. The problem is the comunication connection bus is different for those cars then the older 97-04 system. Have to wait for them to come out so that a company like tci will do a stand alone computer to make it work. You can do a 4L80e as of now that will handle lots of power and has overdrive.

You want to modify your car/engine, turbocharge it, make lots of power, fly down the interstate (can be dangerous, be very very carefull on public roads) and not run it to redline? Why no running to redline, that's what you have to do to make the power.

BTW: Even with a 4L60E and stock 3.23 gears redline in third gear doesn't come until ~140 mph, and you can cruise along locked up in OD at 100 mph turning ~3k rpm.

The 4L80e when built up right will handle around 1000 ftlb torque. Stock I believe they are rated to 800 ftlb. The six speeds should be out in the next year or so. The 5L50e that came in the caddy is pretty similar to a 60e, maybe even a little weaker. It depends how much power your after to decide on the tranny. You may be able to search on the internet for more info on when the 6 speed tranny are going to come out.

The new vette A6 tranny isn't going to handle big turbos out of the box either.

Just stick with the 4l60 and put 3.42s in (3.73s) if you run big tires. Let your turbos do their job.

At 70 mph my car only turns 2200-2300 at 70 with 3:23 gears. If you want to run high speed stay with a higher gear (lower numerically).

when i had the truck....man that thing would accelerate like a bitch! i'd be threw all 4 gears FAST!! But I think maybe running some higher gears may take care of the A4 being beefed up alil.

You do relize that the four in the floor had no OD. It would be like driving the A4 in in 3rd when you were in 4th with the manual. If you want a strong A4 I would recomend Dr. Evil, Rossler and Rock-On. They have some strong A4's that can handle the HP you want to build.
Btw if it was running 6000 @ 70mph with a 26" tire it would have like a 4:10-4:56 gear in.

I got a question. Is there ever gonna be a big enough market for trans with more gears to be "built"? I figure if people are getting built 4l60e's now then in a few years when the 5l50e, 6l60/80e and other transmissions have been out for a while and are more popular, that people are gonna blow em and want built ones. Maybe one day i could get a built a6 on my car.

Does anyone know how to make the 5l50e work? Does it use a stand alone controller or can u tune your pcm for it? I know it will bolt up to an LS block but their is no info on the net about it and I can't find anyone that has any experience with it.
