If your tranny fluid temps aren't hot enough this sometimes causes the shifts to delay enough for this to happen. Does your car sit awhile at the track before you get to make your first run? If so, that may be the cause.

The fix is you could let your car idle 15 minutes or so to try and get the ATF hotter or you could lower your 1-2 shift point a little, but this "might" hurt your ETs. You'd have to try it and see.

I am asking how to fix it.I called a transmission pro today, and he said what Steve said that sometimes the tranny fluid is not hot enough, he also said I should put a shift kit in it. What do you guys think? take down the shift points down 200 RPM.

Mine use to hit the limiter on the 2nd to third gear shifts. Turned out that the tranny fluid was a tad bit low.

Mine hits on the 2-3 shift. I'm looking for a way to fix it also.

I'd try these fixes in this order.

1. Check fluid levels. These trannies are very sensitive to their fluid level. If they're down even a little bit, they'll start acting up. This isn't your prob, Nocturnal, because if it's a low level condition it would happen on every run.

2. Make sure your tranny temps are up to normal operating temps.

3. Lower shift point(s) fifty or a hundred rpm at a time till you aren't hitting the limiter anymore. I would only do this as a "last resort" though as this may hurt your times.

I don"t think lower them 200 RPM will hurt ET, because they are set at 6400.
Maybe I will only lower it 100 RPM.

Do you have any mods done? I nail mine after I changed the gears. The factory tach is real slow. I did some logging and the computer shows a car shifts at 6k but the tach shows like 6400 ( i upped the rev limiter..but not enough).....I think a aftermarket tach will fix my problem......but I'm not sure.

This depends on a lot of factors. Lowering your shift point 100-200 rpm may hurt or it may help. The only way to know for sure is to experiment at the track and see what happens.

If your shift is set at 6400, what is the rev limiter set at? Either lower the shift or raise the limiter. I bumped my limiter up 100 and it was gone.

I went to the track Tuesday night, and all 3 runs I hit the rev limiter. That really sucks!
Waterbug 1999 the guy who did my programming say's it is at either 6700 or 6800 RPM.
I am going to have him bump it up to 7000 RPM. What do you guy"s think?
I have a 216/220 cam,and comp springs in it.
With the shift kit I am going to put in Will these 2 things fix the problem?
Also the transmission guy say"s there is nothing wrong with my transmission.

I think you'd better be damn careful with that stock bottom-end reving to 7 grand. I'd lower my shift point a little before I raised my limiter above 6700-6800 rpm.

Thanks for the advice Steve. I guess I will have to lower where it shifts.
