Please help....swapping to an A4...questions
I am seriously considering swapping to an A4 trans. The M6 is a good street trans but IMO sucks for drag racing. I am going to source the harness, console, shifter, etc used from the boards, ebay, and local junk yards.
My question is: Can I buy ANY 4L60E, like the ones SpeedInc sells, the DrEvil or TCI transmissions??? And then hook up the 99' harness, etc? Or do I have to buy an Fbody LS1 trans?
Any suggestions or help would be appreciated. Thanks

You want a 4L60e for an LS1, otherwise you will have to get an LT1 converter. All of those shops will make you a tranny to work on the LS1.
I think, but am not 100% certain, that the LS1 tranny will handle any 99 & up harness. However, I'm not certain that an 01 harness is 100% compatible with a 99 car.

Another route to go, whihc would probably be cheaper and easier, is to source a used TH400, rebuild it, and attach a gear vendors overdrive. This would eliminate the need for the computer and harness. Then I would only need to get the crossmember, shifter, converter, flexplate, trans, and modify the driveshaft.
I will weigh each alternative accordingly and try and figure out what I want to do.

I still have to see what I wanna do. My original intent was to purchase a TH400 or 4L60E and keep the T56 in case I wanted to go back. If I can part with the M6 we may work something out.
How many miles are on your trans?
Anything done to it? (converter, shiftkit???)

Bone stock car, only thing done so far is FLP LT's the trans was replaced with the newer 4L60E it has about 45k on it. It shifts strong and perfect. Has no problem breakin loose into 2nd.
