Default my 2002 Z-28 Transmission!!

Heys guys,
I just bought a 2002 Camaro Z-28 with an Automatic Transmission.19,000 miles on car.I bought ot sight unseen so when it finally arrived off the truck tonight I was so excited. When i drove it,the transmission holds 1st gear till about 4k rpm.I can get it to shift before that by slightly pulling off my foot from the gas pedal! Also when i am at 60mph i slam it down & it just comes out of gear & rpms go into orbit!!

Ok anything to look at before we declare it fried transmission?I have an older chev & when the vaccuum line off the transmission comes off it will react the same way!!!Ofcourse this is all electronically controlled!

Thanks a bunch

You may just have a very high stall converter in the car. Does it actually go into neutral when you stomp it in 3rd, or does it just rev up quickly like a slipping clutch while in the lower gear? If the latter, you probably have an aftermarket converter. Did the previous owner say anything about a converter? One thing for sure, before getting into tranny internals, see what kind of converter is in there.

Be careful about revving that motor to 8k - or to 6k for that matter if it's unloaded - or you may be getting into the motor before the trans.

yep confirmed tranny blown! Wont shift into 2nd gear cause it aint there anymore!Thats why it revs forever is because its downshifting to second & no one home!My trans guy told me he could rebuild mine & make it for the track with a 2800 stall coverter for around 2800 bucks installed.I didnt go into all the details but from what i hear this guy really knows his transmissions.

That's a lot of coin. Make sure you get a good rebuild with upgrades. Also you might consider other converters. 2800 is pretty low stall and there are some good, proven converters available that I would buy over a no name unit.

go with atleast a 3500 stall.

do a search...2800 stall is tiny, you'd regret it.
