Will I need a shift kit and tuning after installing a 3400/2.1 stall???
Just curious if a tune and/or shift kit will be needed after I install my new Fuddle 3400/2.1 vert? I have a stock 98 Z28 with 79,000 miles. I will also be installing a B & M 24,000 GVM tranny cooler at the same time.
Will it be too loose if I don't get a tune and/or shift kit? Will it be slower? Will I hit the rev limiter on the 2-3 shift? Will TM be an issue on a 98? Will it hurt my tranny? Thanks.

Definately not. But the shifts might feel a little softer without a shift kit or a tune.

only under light throttle. Anything aggressive will be very nice. WOT will be insanity on four wheels.

More then likely you'll be fine. But there is a chance of hitting the rev limiter at WOT. Some do and some don't.

Probably not. 98-00 can usually get away with little or even no tuning. But there are always exceptions to every rule.

Not with the 24K cooler you got. Tranny should be just fine.
You can probably get away with no tuning or shiftkit. But it certainly wouldn't hurt to have either a sponsor or member with ls1edit or hptuners to tweak your tranny settings. I had a sponsor delete TM, slightly raise line preasure and adjust my rev limiter (just in case). It was $40 well spent as my shifts are quick and I've had no drivability issues.
Good luck and you'll love the verter

I installed a 3500 stall with the same cooler and a trans-go and my car did just fine without a tune. No hitting the rev limiter and the shifts are very firm with the shift kit. Transmission temps are even cooler after the install so I'm sure the tranny will be fine until you get more power.

I found the TC lock/unlock with a 3000/2.2 pretty
aggravating around town. Can you live with it?
Sure. Would you like it better with the shift points,
lockup, rev limiter and maybe idle cleaned up?
Hell, yeah.

I drove my car for two months after getting my TCI SSf 3500 and a 24k trans cooler with out a Tune. My Trans Temperature after going WOT would jump up to 180 to 190, once I even got close to 200 degrees, and the shift points were not too crisp. After I got a Tune with Speed Inc. My Trans Temperature reaches 160 Max after going WOT and driving around town once in a while. The shift points are excellent now.
I definetely recommend a TUNE!
