Default SS4000E first impressions!

Well just picked up my car today with the SS4000E and built 4L60E.. Comparing to my Vig3200.. this thing is quite a bit looser! It revs higher to get going than the Vig.. especially when the car is cold..

When it came up to operating temp.. the car locked up around 35-40 and felt like stock on lock up! which suprised me!

But at lower RPM's it is pretty loose.. I also had straight exhaust at the time though!

With my 3.23's.. when i got down on it.. the shift extension left me right around 5500 which felt awesome and crazy! and i tried it from a slower roll and my M/T drag radials didn't hook up too well.. but thasts without a prewarm and on a cold 40-50 degree day..

I just put my cut out back on so i'll see if it sounds as bad as what it really is! I'll post up how it feels when its a little mroe quiet!

Cya

yea ur gears will make it feel tighter, but dont expect a whole lot. If ur already roasting the tires, switching gears is just gonna make traction even worse.

i think it will all depend on your suspension.. i think if you had an adjustable TA and some adjustable shocks.. ET streets would hook.. I know a reason why i don't hook to good is my front end is a little too low and doesn't transfer weight.. and its cold out..

i'll let you guys know when it comes track time! and the exhaust isn't nearly as bad capped up now! still loose till lock up!

the converters are pretty loose down low, i have 3.73's with a ss3600. Around 35-40 they get to feel like stock. Just wait till you go up some hills at low speeds and see how loose it feels lol You gotta take the good with the bad though, i still get 20+mpg on the highway and pull my front tire off the ground

I agree dude. while it didnt take me too long to get used to my fuddle 3000 I can't see myself going to a 3500, let alone a 4000. You guys that run 3500+ converters are animals. I tip my hat to you.

I just went from a Vig 2800 (stalled to ~3100) to a SS4000 and am one of those guys that thinks it's NOT too loose. That's surprising because I hate loose converters. Yes it's obviously looser than the Vig but the Vig felt like stock to me as far as looseness was concerned.

I have 3.73's and a quiet exhaust (SLP Dual/Dual) so maybe that's why it doesn't seem loose to me. The 3.73's get it moving easily so it's not depending on the converter so much. 2000 rpm to stay with traffic, 3000 gets me WAY out in front.

Traction??? HAH!! Doesn't happen on the street even with Nittos. We'll see what it does at the track with ET Streets.

Surprised to see you saying it's loose. I would think your SS4000E would be tighter than my SS4000 just because it's made for the nitrous shot.

That shift extension seems to high for the ss4000. When I ordered mine It was also 5500 rpm. It was higher that an my pt4000. I tryed to spray a 150 shot on it and it blew through the convertor. I sent it back. They tightened it up alot. Now the shift extension is only 5000. From was others have said it should have a shift extension of 5200-53000. I think cornel has this convertor and that's what he stated the shift extension to be.

so you think my converter is off if the shift extension is 5500? I thought it would be mroe close to 5000 also.. but i am not sure.. because i have 3.23 gears and don't know if that makes a difference..

Shifting at 6400 - 6500 my SS4000 drops back to ~5200. This is via Atap, not the stock tach which can be off a bit.

I just change from a TCI SSF 3500 to a Yank SS 4000 and the Yank is much much looser.

When I got my car to hook up, I blew my posi out and broke the sprag in my trans

Now I have a 10 bolt out of a M6 (3.42 gears) and a rebuilt trans, just waiting to for time to get out and try in out again.

6 mounting bolts for the 4000E as opposed to the 3 mounting bolts for the 4000.

More than a bit ... my stock tach showed 4600-4700 shift extension, Atap 4300-4400.
