If the TC was in some way damaged, how would you know? Would it shudder? Would it just slip at WOT? What would you feel/experience?

Depends on whats wrong with it. My old one started to lock up at idle, making the car not idle in gear. It would be fine while cold, then once warm, a shutter, then later stall. The Stall point may raise incrementally also.
