Stock 4L60E vs FPL level5 4L65E
1. Will a new FLP Level 5 4L65e give me more power to the ground and better ET times and dyno numbers?
2. OR, is there no difference in drivetrain loss between the stock 4L60E and the 4L65E tranny and maybe it would be heavier and just slow me down?

A built transmission will not put more power to the wheels it will simply hold up to more power. That being said FLP's transmission comes with a shift kit coupled with vacuum modulated pressure for the shifts it allows the transmission to shift faster and crisper than the stock unit. So it will make the car slightly faster but I wouldnt buy a built 4L60E/4L65E for a performance gain.

hey
A transmission that is built properly will transfer more power, we know that a tranny @180 psi line will break loose at aprox 530 hp...just by raising line to say 210 psi we can get the same tranny to pull 580 hp ...so will it put more hp to the rear wheeels ...yes. It will not make hp. but it will transfer more without breaking loose. You've gotta have the hp up front.... Built for strenght and shifting faster will improve overall et. we see a 2 tenths- 4 tenths pick up by simply replaceing the tranny, however there are other issues that need to be considered....Hope this helps Dave

Awesome! I mainly am doing the FLP and 12-bolt for strength, however, I was hoping for less parasitic loss, as well. Thanks for taking to time to reply. It's appreciated more than you could know.
I'll be doing a run at the track soon and will post time/traps in a few weeks. The FLP will be in this week, as well as the MT ET street radials. Unfortunately, Strange takes 3-4 weeks to deliver the 12-bolt, so, I can't launch it without the risk of breaking the 10-bolt, which I want to resell.
So, once the 12-bolt is in, I'll post up what this combo makes at the track. I'm not too concerned about numbers, but, they are nice to acquire.

Make sure to break in the transmission in properly before beating on it. Either purchase a hard vacuum line from FLP or make one. Do not use a rubber vacuum line. Make sure to install a transmission cooler and use only regular Dextron III transmission fluid.

Out Phuk'n Standing!!!
There's someone else out there doing the same mod!
I have had an FLP Stage 4 for some time now.
I picked up .3 at the Big End after swapping out Tranny's
I've beat the heck out of my Auburn 10 Bolt with 3.23s
I've stepped up to the MOser 9" with 3.70's for now,
BUT am looking into getting a Race Gear Setup soon.
What Stall size (rpm) are you going with?
I just received my Yank SS4000Extreme.
Had the Vig 3200.
I sent the FLP-Stage 4 in to Chuck at "FLT"(now instead of "FLP") and had it
Upgraded to the Stage 5. I'm currently in the middle of the Re-Installation Phase.
Let me know how it works out for you and I'll do the same.

Taken from FLP's website. This is the difference plus the price of $1,995 vs. $2,850:
GM 5 pinion planet assemblies front and rear
GM reaction shaft with bearing
FLP's extreme duty sun shell with bearing which is stronger than GM's
4L65E shell
WE ONLY USE GM 5 PINION PLANETS.THE GM 5 PINION PLANETS ARE MORE EXPENSIVE THAN THE FOREIGN MADE 5 PINION PLANETS, BUT ARE MUCH STRONGER.

Yeah I have read the specs, but I would like it translated into english...basically at what power level would you start to outgrow the 4 and need the 5?
Basically i'm wondering how much you can throw at a Level 4 and be reliable.

Well, I just broke mine and it was only in my weak-*** car for 2 weeks ... LOL!!!! It's the 4L65E Level 5. Defective part, I guess. It something in the internal linkage, though, not the housing or planetary gears. FLP apparently didn't ask questions ... simply freighted my shop another one without me shipping mine and waiting until they got it. Looks like they provide good customer service.
