Do I really need a lock-up converter?
I'm thinking about swapping my M6 for a TH400. Question is do I really need a lock-up converter? I really don't feel like spending $950 for one. The car is street legal but not a daily driver.
I want the Fuddle stall and looking for 4000 stall. I think they sell for about $550 for a non-lockup version.
Thanks

the only reason I fitted a 3600 'lockup' converter was for when I fit the blower(blower still six months away yet) I can still get a good 60 footer then have it lock up after that and let the engine torque carry it down the quater with out slippage.
but unfortunately in my case cos I am still N/A I haven't got the grunt yet to lock it up early, it locks up at 104 mph to sling shot me over the line , but it slips too much until then, so I am taking it out till I get the blower and fitting a lighter non lockup 3600 to get my MPH back.
Hope this gives you an Idea of what lock up is good for .
I do have it lock up at 59 mph at light throttle for better economy for normal driving..

Isn't it hard to find a lock up for a th400?
Transmissions, especially those never offered with lock up converters tend to not heat up as much as a lock up trans with a non lock up converter.
One reason is the non lock up trans cruises at, above, or close to lock up anyway.
Overdrives usually want to cruise at a lower rpm so even with a stock stall non lock up converter there is still some slipping going on. (what I mean by slipping is the difference between the speeds of the two halves of the converter).

Lockup....whats that? (running a TH350 in my DD ). I rarely see the stall rpm of my TC now, 4000rpms. I think it would be nice at times to have a lock up, but not necessary.
