Default 4000+ stall....

im goin with a "special" cam that will require me to spin the motor to or around 6500 or so RPMs and it "requires" a 4K+ stall...well im running into the issue that, my car shifts at 6K rmps and the stall is 4K...intill i get that cam im gonna have 2K to work with ...i also have 3.73's BTW

What im gettin to...will this stall hurt my et and make me run outta MPH at like 100 MPH?

I ran a 4K stall and 3.73's for a while, it was a great setup and it dropped a couple of tenths off my E.T over my 3500 stall. Even with a 6k shift point it shouldn't be a problem, I ran a 11.6 @ 114 with that setup and stock heads/cam.

It won't affect your top speed at all, gears are the only thing that can limit that. I was still able to do 160 with stock heads/cam, SS4000, and 3.73's.

Erm...we get high stall converters to cut our ET down...and it won't affect top speed (who needs to go that fast anyway, I don't know).

With my 4000 stall and 3.73 gears I shift at 6400 and the RPM drops down to 5300-5400 on each shift. With your car shifting at 6000 your RPM should still drop down to around 5300-5400. Shifting 500 rpm early on each shift will probably cut your ¼ by 2mph or so and your ET will be around .2- .3 slower.

i lost .55 off of my 1/8 mile ET with the stock tune, only the addition of the stall. i lost 3 mph off my trap speed from tqm, though. it's a **** in the city, but on the highway the converter locks up like stock and you'd never know it was there unless you tromp down on it. if you can stand a 4k stall, go 4400 and get that extra .05 in the 60'. i can't see how they'd be too different...as my 4k stall is LOOSE loose loose. i will restall to 4400 soon enough (after the tranny grenades) to get the optimum out of my cam choice.

also, odds are you will GAIN mph in the 1320 from your stall. 140+ mph i don't know about, as i haven't gone that fast since the stall. but that's for bikes and rice, eh?

all in all i LOVE the stall and, in fact, want MORE of it!!

no not really, i run a 4k stall on my DD and its all how you have it tuned, i have mine set at a mid tune right now and it locks up at 34 mph, that way i get good gas mileage around town. but i used to have it lock at 43 mph and it was a pain b/c it was locking and unlocking all the time due to different speeds, but with a good daily drive tune you can get it to lock at a low mph, remembering that i have HPTuners and tune the car myself so when goign to race i have a more aggressive tune in there. its all in the tuning manbut as far as the origional question, i agree with others you will only be a few mph short on top, but then again who needs to go over 170-175....

it is very spongey and the car feels extremely lazy. when accelerating from a stoplight in traffic i must attain 2,800-3,000 rpm just to keep up. however, at any speed below 35, 3/4 throttle will make the ***-end skip around and WOT will absolutely annihilate the tires. i love the converter as i do not drive this car everyday, i have grown accustomed to the laziness and will never have another automatic toy that lacks a big stall converter.

but as i said, if you're willing to deal with the laziness and sluggish crap that you get putting around town, go for a 4400 stall. if you do what i did and get a 4k and like it, you'll wish you had gone bigger!

converters make automatics so much fun. nothing like going to the drag strip with a stock 3700 lb pig and out 60ing a gutted, cammed, bracket car that runs 11s. stall converters
