Installing a shift kit will reduce the likely of slipping, or reduce it. Installing a converter could actually cause the tranny to slip. I would install a stall converter on a new or freshly built tranny, but that is just me.

i've got 104,145 miles on my 4l60e and come feburary when I take my automatic transmission class I'm going to get ready to rebuild mine and do a stall, shift kit and do all the other upgrades like a vacuum modulator, beast sunshell, etc. the rebuild kit I plan on buying with everything except the convertor will run me about $500. so it won't be an overnight deal. I will probably buy tools and maybe a core and then save up and buy the kit and then save up and buy the convertor and do it all at once. I think when you consider the miles it'd be wise to consider goin the same direction as I am. i don't think that the stock tranny will stand up too many more miles before it starts to slip or act up in some other way.

the rule i've been told is less than 80k and the fluid isn't burned too bad and the tranny shifts fine then go for it. if its been changed before you shouldn't have a problem. the main thing is make shure it shifts good if it doesn't slip then you should be just fine.
