ls1 2wd convered to 4x4
I bought a 2000 ws6 engine &trans, i had the trans conveted,by a local trans shop,to 4wd, i have it in the car,the trans will not engage,my first thought is not enough fluid. i have a b&m deep pan on it corvette rad. with trans cooler. the tq.con. was empty.how much fluid will it need? my second thought, is there a difference in the trans output shaft,is it possible that 4x4 shaft they installed was an early model and is not compatable with the ls1 converter? he said the trany looked like new inside. thanks

I hate to be the one who has to break the bad news to you, but no 700R4/4L60/4L60e is going to hold up to a turbo LSx motor in an AWD application Go to syty.net and look into alternatives. (TH 400, 4L80e, Powerglide) See signature...been there, done that.

Pic in link.
The input shaft should not have been changed, so no problem keeping a standard LS1 converter. The output shaft would be different, and you'd need the adapter to the BW4472 transfer case. Also, be sure you have braced the transfer case to the block/bellhousing...otherwise, you'll crack the transfer case and/or tranny case as soon as you put any power to it.

THANKS, I stopped at the tranny shop today, the guy who did the work, was off till monday, i asked one guy there and he said the same thing as you about the input shaft, there is fluid going to the rad. cooler, so the pump is working, I have it on jack stands, when i start it the tires rotate forward at 5 or so mph, even when i put it in reverse or and yes the shifter is working, could there be a problem with whatever it actuates inside??THANKS

i found the problem, the shift mechanism was not positioning the trans lever in the proper place, when it said in park,it was not quite in park,i found this out by putting it in park and i could still rotate the rear tires,i bent the bracket that holds the cable to correct this, and everything works, with the lever in between gears it would not engage any gears!! THANKS
