Default Stress on tranny?

O.K. this is not your typical question for this forum, but this came up in coversation at a local speed shop the other day. Basically I'm putting a tru-trac with some 3.73's into my car next week. The debate is will the lower gear ratio add or reduce stress on the tranny? I've had some tranny issues in the past and I would think the lower ratio would accelerate the car more efficiently and reduce stress on the tranny, but some guy in the store (not an employee) disagrees saying that you're now making the converter do all the work. That doesn't make sense to me, but I'm not the sharpest tack in the box either! If anyone could shed some light on this I'd appreciate it. It's not going to effect my decision to install the gears either way, just wanted to put this to rest. Now I just have to pray my crappy 10 bolt holds up as well as it has with the 2.73's!

2.73's are harder on the torque converter and the transmision, as compared to 3.73's.
