Default shift kit questions

okay i searched the forum and found some good advice about getting a shift kit install but i still have some questions

i see alot of you guys go with transgo, is it much better than b&m?

i lack the knowhow to do it myself so ill be taking it to a shop. ive been getting estimates and their all over the place. ive heard i dont need a shift kit and with some drilling it can be solved for cheap,

should i let them just drill it like he said and how much should i expect for a shift kit installed?

thanks

btw its a 1983 chevy camaro z28 305 4bbl with a 4speed(700r4?!)

Don't let them drill......Install the kit use transgo....get a good shop to install it and don't pay anymore than say 280.00...plus parts....Hope this helps ..Dave

Default Check out GM High-Tech "WAY BEYOND THE POWER" January 2006

I agree with using the transgo kit it really works. Flt had a article in January 2006 By John Ulaszek done on them. In this article it shows some of the things they do on there rebuilts. There are a few things I recommend doing when installing the "shift kit". Update the 1-2 and forward accumulator pistons from plastic to the aluminum. Oh yeah and maybe some ***** with a new seperator plate. If you can get your hands on this issue, you'll see what I'm talking about...I know this will help!!!

I actually recommend getting your computer tuned instead of getting a shift kit. My car shifts pretty hard into 2nd from an electronical increase in shift firmness. It's much cheaper than having to buy a shift kit AND to have it installed. I had madz28.com increase my shift firmness 70% harder than he would NORMALLY do it. And it's a great way to get your car custom tuned at the same time.
