The caprice trans will work fine. However you must swap the tail housing and the cooler fittings. Other than that your good to go!!!
Feel free to call me if you have any other questions.
Vince.

Just take them off your old transmission. The tail housing is just four bolts and the cooler fittings!!!! DONE.

Hey thanks again, that sounds simple enough, but what about the bell housing is it the right size to fit in my Trans Am? And when I go to take off the cooler fittings what am I looking for? Thanx

Yes your bell will work just fine. As far as your fittings, remove the cooler lines from them, remove fittings from the case and then transfer them to the other unit. Reason being is that the caprice uses larger cooler lines and thus different cooler fittings.
Your welcome, Vince

Vince thanks for the quick reply, Your good...I can see you've been in the business for a while...oh yeah does it matter if the Caprice is a V6 or V8, I mean its a 4L60E Tranny so i dunno if they put those on V6's or only V8's...and if it came from a V6 Caprice would that affect my Trans Am since its a V8?

Yes it is possiable. I need the trans code of the caprice unit. It is either located on a sticker on the drivers side top of the bell housing or stamped on passenger rear side of transmission case. Sorry I thought the donor unit was from a V-8. It should start with a 4 and then 3 letters. Such as 4BFD,4BCD,4BBD,4BWD or 4BCD. Get that and I'll set you staight.

B-bodies & F-bodies of this vintage share the same case. This case is a modified version of the fullsize 4WD case. Like mentioned above, you can just swap the tailshaft housing and cooler fittings. Both transmissions use the short shift shaft, so even that won't be a problem.

And since the transmission came from an LT1 B-body, then it already has the corvette servo as well. Sounds like you did good.
