Default Paddle Shifter?

I'm planning on getting a T/A pretty soon and cant decide on a manual or auto. Since it would be my daily driver I was leaning more towards auto, but I know i'd be missing out on the fun of banging my own gears. Well anyways I came across this paddle shifter setup from www.shrifter.com. I know it wont work with a airbag, but i was thinking of just ditching the airbag and getting an aftermarket steering wheel. Are there any computer problems i'd run into by removing the bag?

You sure that this'll work with a 4L60E?

A paddle shifter is in no way like a 6 speed. I had a manual valve body in my Mustang and though it kept things intresting it was in no way the same feeling as a manual. I looked into the paddle shifter a couple of months ago. From what I know you have to buy a transmission controler also. You can remove the airbag but youll get a airbag light on the dash. Just remove the bulb.

The 4T65E has a different valve body from the triptronic version to the auto version. Making a 4L60E do the same would be a lot of work for something you would soon regret.

Yea it works with the 4l60e. From the site it seems all i'd need is a transmission controller and the shrifter will plug into that. I know it wouldnt replace the feel of a six speed, i just think it would be an interesting idea. It seems to shift pretty quick if you check out the video from the shrifter site.

I thought that they would have a manual six speed with the planetary gears that was based on the auto version.

just to bring this back a bit, wouldn't shifting this thing with the paddle setup cause the same kind of damage if you were moving the selector from OD to 2 or D; in a 4l60e?

By damage i mean the general idea that shifting a 4l60e manually while driving will cause premature wear of the trans components and that it is much better to allow the trans to do the work for you.

Also, this paddle system by twistedmachine.com, will this work with a 4l80e.

I've installed a couple of twistmachine paddle shifters in late model vehicles. They work great, but you will have to lose the airbag, install an aftermarket steering wheel and a aftermarket transmission controller. It plugs directly into our TCI controller. They will work fine on 4L60E and 4L80E transmissions.

i was told by a tech at TCI that he didn't know if it could be hooked up to a 4l80e trans. Can it be used in conjuction with TCI's 4l60e to 4l80e box?

It'll work with the 4L60E as well as the 4L80E...in conjunction with our controller. It's fun to shift it via the paddle shifters, but it's worth installing them purely for the aesthetic value
