Default 700r4...

Has anyone put a 700r4 into a '98+ F-body? I've done searches and not really turned up anything. My 4l60e is on borrowed time and I can snag up a 700r4 thats already built to take 600hp on the cheap. My only question is about getting the converter to lock up and getting my speedo to read besides hooking into the front right wheel sensor. I know I'll have to get a universal flexplate to fit the converter thats in the 700r4. I realize it is the same as my 4l60e almost but am not familiar with the differences.

Thanks for the help.

700r4 has way more potential over a 4l60e so I'm told even though its almost the same thing. I'd prefer not to have to toggle switch my converter to lock up when I'm driving around.

Anyone?

You need a spacer to fit the non LS1 converter. Spacer info.

You can wire one of the stock pressure switches on the valve body to lock the tcc automatically in fourth, just need to supply 12 volts to it. Or buy a kit from summit to do the same thing. Or buy a kit to lock it up hydraulically with a kit like This one.
For a speed sensor, get one out of a 700R4 with electric speedo. May have to reprogram the computer for the pulses per mile.

Just make sure the throttle bellcrank geometry is correct for the 700R4 tv cable.
Good luck.

2 days tops is really pushing it, if either something goes wrong or you have to order a part!

I think as long as I plan right and get the required parts I'll be fine. Only debate is if I'm going to go with a 3600-3800 stall or just drive the 2300-2500 it comes with. Thinking the later until more money comes and just drive the 2300-2500 stall with the new cam for a while. Not much point in a huge stall unless I have some DR's.

One problem you will run into is the throttle valve cable. It has to have the correct geometry at the throttle body connection or the tranny will never live very long. Bowtie Overdrives has a kit for this but it will only work with the small side plate on the throttle body. It will not bolt up on a 2000 and later throttle body. I have a 200-4R in my car but the throttle valve cable geometry is the same. I spent several hours building a mount setup that works. Depending on what year your car is, this may be something to check on before you start the install.

Thats not much of a problem as it used to be. Might look into TCI's constant pressure valve body for the 700's. http://www.tciauto.com/Products/GM/gm_4L60E.asp

I was wondering if you know of anyone who has used one of these and if so, what kind of luck did they have with it? Thanks

Probably not...

But both of GM's Throttle-Valve transmissions (THM200-4R and THM700-R4) can have their valve-body modified for full time/ constant line-pressure.

How difficult is this to do? Price competitive to the TCI VB? I have an application that could benefit from the constant line pressure. -Bob

so with this mod or VB you dont have to worry about improper TV valve adjustments?
