Default 700r4 problems in tow vehicle

I have a 700r4 in my 83 Sliverado 4wd, has a worked 400sbc, 33's, ect.., trans was just rebuilt 600 miles ago by a shop pretty far away where i used to live so i cant get back.. was built to HD specs so no electronics needed..

Problem is today while climbing a rather large hill, appx, 2-3 miles pretty steep grade(trl was empty, on way to pick up the vette).. I accelerated as normal and it downshifted to 2nd gear as it normally does(appx 45-50 mph), and when i topped the hill 3rd gear was gone.. just like its in neutral.. if you mash the throttle while it is in this state, it will kick down and accelerate, but once you let off its like neutral again.. and it wont downshift while slowing, need to come to a stop so it will start in 1st again, so 1 and 2 are fine.. also if the trans is left in 2 on th eindicator it still shifts into this 3rd "neutral" zone.. so i have no clue if 4th(od) is working.. trans NEVER slipped before this that was any noticeable, actually the opposite, would bog the motor instaed of downshifting.. unless you got on the throttle.. Fluid still smells/looks good.. Any chance I could be lucky and it be something small? Or what am I in for.. Thanks for any help..

I was told it has 3.55's in them when i bought it but never checked them myself.. so it may possibly be still the stock size, I do know the speedo is off about 8-10 mph with the stock speedo gear, when reading 35 it is actually around 43....

GM axles don't come with 3.55's. But even assuming you have another brand of axles 3.55's are to low (numerically) for a 700R4 with 33" tires and will usually burn 3-4 up pretty quick.
