Default converter question

I am getting a 3500 stall and was wandering if I will
have to buy anything extra to get it installed and runnin
right, and is it the higher the str the harder it hits or the lower?

Thanks,

Joe

You shouldn't have any problem running that stall Joe. I would buy some kind of programer for your car though. Oh yeah and put some 3:73's in that hing too man!

Tranny cooler, deeper tranny pan, and/or shift kit maybe?

Unless you are running seriously fast....you don't need a deep pan for the tranny. And there are oil starvation issues with most of them. Just a word to the wise. A tranny temp gauge would be a very good idea. A cooler is an ABSOLUTE MUST!

cooler for sure and i would reccomend a shift kit at least. i put a 3800 in my car and about 2 weeks later my 3-4 clutch went out. so unless u want to buy a new tranny do the right steps.

i had the cooler on there but nothing else.

I thought a shift kit is just extra stress with harder shifts. It is a good addition with a cooler?

Why would you only want a deep pan if you were going seriously fast and how would you run into starvation issues?

Why would a shift kit put extra stress on the tranny? I've know of people that have increased line presure, had a shift kit, and a 4400 stall and never ran into any problems.

Well, the tranny shops i've talked to have said there are starvation issues with the deep pan. I didn't ask too many details, i was just relaying it. My point is, its not a necessary thing. there are lots of guys running 10s in the 1/4 with the stock pan.

As far as extra stress....i don't know enough to explain it. But maybe one of the tranny builders can pop in and explain. But you must remember, that the 4L60E is known for breaking frequently. Much like the stock 10-bolt. A lot of 13sec guys have busted theirs, while some people are deep into the 11s on the stock rear. Some hold out longer than others. Its just a matter of time. I've been through several transmissions. And i run low 13's, about to break into 12's.

Hopefully a tranny expert will chime in on this post because I would think that the deeper pan (using truck filter) and shift kit (as long as line pressure isn't too high) would help prolong life after insatlling a torque converter, but now I'm curious too?

A tranny cooler is a MUST HAVE with a stall converter! I have a Yank SS3600 and the B&M cooler (the bigger one of the two). I do not have a shift kit and everything works just fine. I did have the shift points adjusted after the converter install though.
