I have ran my Camaro with excessive backlash in the rear end. The gears wine like its a semi. I was going to just buy a rebuild kit and redo the rear end gears. Right now it's all stock and I have 3.23's from the factory.. I was thinking getting 3.73's.. It's an automatic. It's my daily driver and I was wondering if going from 3.23 to 3.73 would effect gas mileage that much. I use this car on the highway a lot and didn't want to really effect the gas mileage.. What do you guys think?

i went from a 2.73 to a 3.42 because i didnt want to kill my gas milage, and its also my daily driver. i wouldnt go any higher then a 3.73 if you are going to drive it everyday. i am very satisfied with my 3.42, i could feel a very dramatic difference. but for you going from a 3.23, you wouldnt feel much of a change. go with the 3.73 and youll get about 260-280 miles to a full tank. thats not coming from experiance but from a judgement of my gear. on the high way i usually get about 300 miles.

I swapped from an automatic transmission to a six speed. Instead of going to the 3.42's I went with 3.73's and drove it with the automatic trans for a while. It didn't feel that much faster because it would break the tires loose easier from a stop. What I really noticed was highway driving, it felt like it wasn't going into overdrive, it was but the rpms were just up, gas mileage got worse.

Need more advice on this! Bump Bump! Debating between 3.42 or 3.73 - FROM 3.23... So I might as well go with 3.73 from what everyone says.. I hope my gas mileage is there still... More opinions please!

IMO, stick with your 3:23's or 3:42's at the most. You said you do alot of highway miles and you will get tired of the 3:73's.
