4l60e to 4l80e swap, what EXACTLY is needed?
Hey, i have been looking around and reading most of the post for a 4l80e swap. THe search is timing out now or something so i can bring up any searchs.
I will be going with a built 4l80e with a built driveshaft.
Now, as for the bare essentials, what is it that i need, initially, to get the trans running in the car?
I have a 98 pcm and now read that it cannot be convertered to deal with the 4l80e perameters. Is this true or can it be done... If not, i will be going with the TCI box but i want to find out first if i can use a HPtuners software instead so i can save a bit of cashola.
I will be getting a crossmember, i believe, or i know that is needed, and a few harness adapters...
ok:
http://speed-eng.com/store/index.php...2_61_2018_2020
From this link, what is absolutely necesary and what can i hold out on?
I will probably go with a YANK converter...
thanks guys in advance. Not to push ya'll and i appreciate your help, but i need to figure this out by tomorrow so i can get this order set.
Thanks again,
Angel

PM or email the guys at hptuners, but what I have been told by numerous people is that 98's won't drive a 80e. Otherwise you need an adapter for the shift linkage if you keep the factory shifter. I made my own but I'm sure a sponser may sell one now. You need to modify or run all new cooler line. The wiring adapter is only needed if you can get the stock computer to work. Speartech builds those for your specfic needs. A cross member, driveshaft, dip stick and converter should complete the parts list. There was a good thread on this topic a while back like two months ago.

Does anypne know 100% for certain if the 98 PCM will run the 4L80E? I know you have to send the PCM off to be setup to run the 80E by HPTuners, But will a 98 PCM be able to do it? I need to know ASAP. I need to know weather or not to order the TCI controller or what.

I did a tci and arp bolts, but the coating was a pain. I think they may have corrected this now. I believe a few other companys make flex plates also. I would swap it since the stocker is weak. I left the bottom cover off for extra cooling. So far no problems. My friend left his th400 cover off and no issues either.

haven't got a hold of Ken or anyone at hptuners forum section yet, but i did call tci for their box and its about 770.00 plus a tps sensor harness through them...
that sounds a bit much, is that right? Well, its their product and im sure they price it correctly to their standards but i think i read somewhere you can get it at 500-600 buckola'z...
So, so far, here is the list:
Trans (obviously)
Crossmember
Lines
Dipstick
Converter
Flexplate
Driveshaft
Harness either for the stock PCM or
TCI box and necesary harness'z
DO i need this? http://speed-eng.com/store/product_i...oducts_id=6626
thanks!!
anyone heard of twistmachine.com?

transmount speed engineering
converter shield (optional) speed engineering
4l80e yoke modified from speed engineering(stock drive shaft will fit)
lokar custom dipstick 34 to 36 inches
tci transcontroller(works awsome, easy to tune, no extra harness needed)(my car was a six speed so no codes from stock computer)
tci tps will not work(had to cut and splice anyway so save your money and just splice the wires)
yank crossmember
tci flexplate
precision converter
stock converter bolts shortened because they are slightly to long)
trans cooler (130-70266)
b&m mega shifter (comes with brackets and cables if you have a six speed)(not needed if you already have an auto)

thanks hotrod, that a good list...
My only issue is the price for the TCI box versus the use of my already existing pcm IF my can be upgraded to deal with the 4l80e.
Actually, that is the only thing that is holding me back actually....

Also, what will you be doing with your pcm tune?

PCM will have to be flashed to a six speed I guess.
As far as sensors and such I wont know until it gets here and I start the install. It comes with a harness and all the plug in's and such, I was told it was a straight foward install. I should only have to splice into the TPS sensor.

Hey, i just noticed... i hate your guts!!! I absolutely hate myself becuz i had a chance to pick up a Repsol RR but took my time and by the time i was set, it was sold. I "ran with a few bikes tonight for a good set of miles and one was a repsol, another 600RR, a few gixxers... had a bunch of fun.. they were cool.. they were a bit serprised about my caddi's perfomance... went to 150ish+ in a few different spots...
Sigh... oh well, got my eyes set on pwer boats now... More money!!

I'd be more than Happy to sell the Repsol to you. PM me if interested.
I am hoping to get the drivetrain installed next week end, I have to work all this weekend. 12hr shifts doesnt leave much time to work on the car. I will let everyone know how it turn out.
