Fuddle 4400 experiences (long)
I originally intended on running an MS3 cam with a 4000 stall. Once I got the stall I changed my mind and wanted to go with a TRex and 4400 stall. John at Fuddle was great and restalled my converter for free (he actually sounded excited to see how it performed with my cam choice actually). I got it back from them about 4 days later.
I got the conveter (4400 with 2.5str) installed with my LTs, ORY, LS6 intake and tranny cooler. The exhaust is currently running through an open cutout.
As soon as I started it up it sounded like a different beast. Going from the stock catback w/ flowmasters to dumped LTs sounds pretty awesome. I've never driven a stalled car and the first thing I noticed was that it wouldn't idle itself forward at all. In fact, it will roll backwards on a steep incline if I don't gas it. Driving around town is fun-I get all kinds of looks. It's usually revving around 2100-2500 to drive around at 35-40mph with my 2.73s. I'm going to get a set of 4.10s in to try and tighten it up a bit. On the HW it's great, I can feel the conveter lock up around 45-50mph and driving returns to stock. When I get it tuned I think I'm going to set the lockup to 40mph, so its loud in town (35mph speed limit) but quieter on the country roads (40-50mph speed limit).
Ok, now to what everyone wants to hear about. Performance. This car feels insane. This car makes my ******* quench up when I stomp on it. It's scary. I have about 300lbs in weight reduction, the mods in my sig (minus the cam) and MT ET Streets. The car takes off like a sling shot, leaving behind 100+ft of dual rubber marks. They are scattered about all over town. Every stop sign/light that precedes a fairly straight road lacking turn ins has them.
Now, my first "race".
A 95 Mustang GT pulled up next to me in this 4 lane rural road. I've seen the kid in town before and I knew he'd race because I've seen him and his H.S. buddies cruising around in their Mustangs teasing the other kids in their Honda's and similar. The road is pretty nice because it is in the middle of no where. There's a big manufacturing plant out there so they have 4 lanes and about 1/2 a mile of absolutely straight, perfect, just asking to have the **** raced out of it pavement. I revved my dumped exhaust at him and I know he had to think of how screwed he really was. He kept it cool and revved his little 4.6 ( ) back at me (edit: I think it was a 4.6, I believe 94 was the last year for the 5.0 but I don't really give a rat's **** about those car's so I'm not positive). We both stomped it at the same time and I swear it looked like he was going in reverse. I was at 60mph in 4 seconds tops and at 100mph in another 4. I just watched him disappear in the mirror. I held it until about 130 and shut it down (I RARELY drive this fast on the street ever and do NOT recommend doing it, I knew the road and conditions and felt it was absolutely as safe as a drag strip). It feels so awesome to run through the gears. I originally thought a stall would just launch me out of the hole. Nope. It keeps the motor above 4400 rpms through every shift. It sounds like a NHRA drag car running through it's gears. I can't decide if I would rather have sex or drive this car. It is definately a toss up.
I've also lined up next to several LT1s, LS1s and 99 style GTs, along with older Fox body's and the likes. Not all are from a stop, many are from a roll and they don't really exceed 60mph. I like to stay somewhat safe. There's not much competition in this town. There is a new Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 I want to line up with and a few older guy's Lightnings I wouldn't mind giving a run with. I'm going to get it to the track in the next week or 2 to get up some times. I have a feeling I should hit low 12s no problem. Thanks for reading.
BTW If I could only do one mod to this car a 4400 stall would be it

First fast car SVT? haha J/K man, sounds like a stout combo for bolton's
BTW, got the cam and heads on the car...should be finished out with the tuning later this week and hopefully hit up the track in the next couple weeks with some shakedown numbers. I'll post up an idle/dyno vid later this week

well that might be true in some aspects, but if you enjoy rowin your own, 6 speed is the only way to go. If i was trying to build a bracket/race car i would have an auto but i just like a Manual....I like this quote "different strokes for different folks"
BTW if your ever looking for some races come to tulsa. alot of us Tulsa Firebird and Camaro Club peeps hang out at the sonic at 45th and memorial on friday and saturday night

Oh cmon you remember me SVT, we went back and forth a month or so ago thru PMs about convertors, trex cam, etc. I'm right down 35 from ya, in Norman.
Just got the car back together with the 'trex' (slightly different, its a 242/248 .610/.615 on a 110+2, and comp xe-r lobes), and tsp/prc stg. 1 cncd heads (stock valves). Went with flowmatched 38 lb injectors and arp rod bolts as well. The cars in line at the shop for a tune, should see some numbers later this week and hopefully some track times a week from friday.

Ryan-I'd love to see what you dyno. I have the cam and am slowly getting the valvetrain parts bought up, however, I gotta drop some cash at the Chevy dealership tomorrow because I'm having some pretty serious wiring issues. None of my lights are working, all the fuses have been checked, I traced some wires back with an OHM reader, then said **** it and decided to just pay the pro's to fix it.
I'd like to see what the numbers you got with those heads. I was contemplating on getting a set for a while but was also looking at Dart/AFR 205s (flycutting obviously) or ETP 215s. Post up the numbers when you get them. BTW I forgot what stall/gearing you were running.
And Honda Hunter, you are probably right. Like I said, I don't really pay attention to Ford's.

Yep it is. The injectors can be tuned to not dump as much fuel as they are capable of.
I bought them with the idea that I can use the with a nitrous setup and/or 408 motor when I get the $ to put one together. Id like to build one with the same cam and same heads (revalved and maybe massaged a bit more). I wanted to go with as much re-usable stuff I could since they're not cheap for the larger sizes.
Oh..these heads are flowing MUCH more air than my crappy stock 853s Far from a cam only setup
