Default Poly motor mounts and poly trans mount question.

Some one told me ( a tranny builder) not to use poly for both (motor & tranny) area as the tranny housing could break due to not being able to flex/move, anyone ever heard or had this happen?

i dont think it would break from not being able to flex, there are cars that run solid mounts without breaking anything. i would think it would be worse if you had a really hard mount on the trans, and a really soft mount on the engine because the torque would cause the engine to move and the trans wouldnt move with it...

if you do ONLY The trans and not the motor yes it stands to reason that the motor moving in shitty rubber mounts and the trans NOT moving in poly mounts could cause something to break

Thats what I was thinking as well... My motor mounts have 99K miles on them and the motor is "flexing" alot causing the headers to rub/smack the k-member somewhat. So, i cut a little notch out of the k-member and was going to run some poly motor mounts.

I have Prothane mounts and you can feel everything. My car is like a massage chair with prothane engine and trans mounts.

Have fun installing them with the headers on

Well, Ill have to pull my exhaust off due to me having to put a new tranny in. So, the headers will be a cake walk as I took out my AC box on the passenger side and there is no AC compressor now.
I guess its a good time to do it.

My prothane mounts shook the hell outta my car at idle for about a month and a half or so until they calmed down, they don't actually rattle anything anymore but they are more noticable. I can't speak for a trans mount.

I installed the motor & tranny mounts and yeah it vibrates but no worse than the vibrations I get from running 18" wheels with 265/35 and 295/35 tires!! I also did it all with the headers on, no big hassle, I just jacked up the motor a little more and it worked fine. I only have about 500 miles on the new mounts and about 6 passes at the local strip and they seem to have softened up just a bit. Either that or my *** is getting softer, not sure which!!

I think i've noticed that too. The tranny mount though, has not changed one bit.
