Default 4L60E w/manual valve body

Not sure if with the 4l60e when you install a manual valve body you lose the converter lockup. A buddy of mine installed a MVB in his and now he has no lockup. Is this normal? Feedback is appreciated!

You have to manually lock it up with a switch and or timer as far as I know.
