stall selection?
ok,i have decided that it is best for me to get a tc next. but i am a little confused about what kind of stall to get. i want to keep building my car and eventually have heads, cam and maybee even a super charger installed. also i want to install a 12 bolt 3.73 or 4.10 gears when its all said and done. how do i pick a tc if i have to choose one thats based on my gears now? (3.23) can i pick a stall that will work for 3.73 or 4.10 gears that will be fine for my current 3.23 gears or do i have to get the different gears installed first? also i hear that you have to match your tc to the cam that you have. like i said i want to do heads and cam eventually. so how do i go about doing this? where do i start? i'm trying to avoid having to go back and install parts again because i didnt do it right the first time. any advice from personal experience would be very helpfull. also,i'm thinking of not bein scared and goin with maybee a 4000 stall. i want to get my rpms where all the power is at. thanks

Use the ol rule of thumb. Pick a stall size that you want and go one step bigger.
First decide on what cam your going with. I knew before my stall that I would eventually get a 224 cam, hence going with the Vig3200 (3600-3800 stall speed).

i would suggest a 4k stall. don't worry about swapping out your 323 gears, they will work great for a street/track car. i have a 4k stall in my car (373 gears..) and it is honestly pretty mild. it will spin 2,200-2,500 keeping up with traffic from a stoplight, then after it locks up all is well. however, when i stand on it, a whole new animal emerges. tc i believe is the best improvement one can do for an automatic. also, don't forget to include a trasmission cooler and tune (even if just for the tranny) to accomodate the stall converter (shift points...adjusting tqm to your liking).

hey thanks for the feedback. i cant wait to get a tc. so its not worth switching my gears? i plan on installing a 12 bolt sometime in the future. wouldnt it just be worth it to have 3.73s installed with the new 12 bolt?

I ran a 3400 Vig with 3.23's for a long time, i didnt waste the money on the gear swap, until i changed the rear end to a 12 bolt.. It was a great DD setup and it was also good at the track..
