Default tranny temp gauge

just read the hole on the driver side of the tranny is after it comes back from the cooler...so yalls guys info/opinions
i assume that when it comes over of the cooler no matter what temp it leave the tranny it almost mostly porportianally to the radiator fluid temp and outside temp(if you have 2 coolers)
so0o0o0o0o0o

should i leave mine in the retuen side? put it in the line on the way to the cooler?
AND
who all has theirs installed i nthe side of the tranny? (return side)
who has it in the line out of the tranny into the cooler at its hotter point?

If you want actual fluid temperature (the fluid being pulled into the tranny from the pan), I would use the return line at the tranny or put it in the pan. I put mine in the pan.

I run mine in the pan as well.
This will give you a good overall outlook of whats going on with the temps.

hmmm....howd yall install this...and it gives the fluid temp about to go into the tranny? so thats the same temp basicaly as the drivers side of the tranny...is it more important to kno the temp that your tranny is getting to...or the fluid temp thats about to go into it?

Overall temperature is what you want.
Having the sender mounted in the pan gives you a good overall reading of what the temps are doing.
I have a cast aluminum deep pan on my TH400 and the previous owner of the tranny drilled and tapped the pan for the sending unit.

You can order a drain plug kit or a bung with 1/8" pipe. Drill a 1/2 hole in the oil pan and install. It really is quite simple to mount this set up in the pan. I did one on friday in about 5 minutes. I find that there is a good spot on the front of the pan/under the bell area, in front of the shifter linkage that works well with out any obstructions. Just make sure when drilling that you are tapping into a flat surface area and also without obstructing any of the bolts for pan removal purposes. Good luck, Vince.
