Default 4L60E **** everywhere...what should I get now?

Ok, so my tranny has taken a crap. 3 and 4 clutches are burnt up and the car only has 1st and 2nd. I have talked to a local shop and it will be $1600 for a rebuild. Should I just get the rebuild done or should I look at getting a 4L80E or something else?? How expensive is a T56 swap compared to swapping in another auto, I might go this route as well. Any comments are welcome as I am really not sure of what I want to do right now. I just don't want to have to mess with this again!!

jesus. for $1600, you can get a nice, fully-built and awesome tranny from FLT or Rock-On. both have great reviews by the nembers here. i know Vince from FLT is always on this site providing advice. he seems like a great guy to work with. in fact, i predict he'll be in this thread soon with recommendations.

FLT or Rock-On. for that price you may as well get a built tranny rather than rebuild your old one and pray it holds.

JMO but it seems like replacing the clutches, servos and solenoids should be a lot cheaper than that...but i don't know crap about trannys. a new clutch pack is like $60 and servoes are like $120 for performance ones.

just a thought, but before you commit to anything, i'd suggest getting a second or even third quote from someone else. he may just be trying to exploit people's ignorance.

new clutches, servos and solenoids should be like $300-$400 plus install so i'd guess maybe $700 all said and done - and that's for performance clutches and servos. but maybe i'm missing something. i don't know exactly what you have to replace when the 3-4 clutch band dies. do you just have to put in another $60 clutch pack? or are there other things? i'm clueless on how to build a tranny.

Well, I hope it he wasnt trying to exploit my ignorance...considering I told him what was wrong before he told me, but I don't really care. I am just going to use this opportunity to get a new/better transmission. Something that I shouldn't have to worry about, like a fully built one from Rock On.
Thats what I did with my exhaust, I starting getting codes saying the cats were messed up, so I just got a set of pacesetters and a ory.

Anybody else got anything to say about a rock on level 4?

im looking at getting a tranny from rock-on. I have talked to dave in a lengthy conversation and he seems to know his stuff. can be difficult to get hold of, just remember that some tranny shops are small and the owners build trannys right along side with their regular employees so they stay pretty tied up. just a thought

Yea I realize that, but it is still frustrating...I mean my car is my daily driver, and I have just wasted 2 days because I cannot get anybody to answer the phone.

They must be swamped if they are unable to answer the phone. We do ship world wide and try to always answer the phone. I don't know if you have tried to contact us, if we don't answer that means that we are currently on the phone with another customer. Please try again. If you get our machine, please leave a message so we call you back asap. Thank you for your time,Vince.
