Default no overdrive... suspecting tuning issue

ok- i just got done installing a new valve body with new shift solenoids since the one i had in the car before wouldn't electronically put the car in first gear (i had to manually shift the car into first) and i had no od. also. i suspected the 1st gear and the od were somehow linked so i guessed that once i got a new solenoid that 1 and od would work. WRONG!

now i have first gear, but i just cannot get the car to shift to od. i took it out with the scanner (hptuners) hooked up and selected 4th gear and nothing. didn't try to shift or anything. it is fine in every other gear but just seems that it won't command it to shift into od.

now- when i first took the car out i could've sworn it shifted to od one time and locked up like normal, but i couldnt' get it to do it again.

i also doubt that the 4th gear clutches are burnt out, since the trans was perfectly fine when i ran it a while back.

thanks in advance.

Can you tell whether it's a failure to shift vs a
failure to lock up? With that converter the two
may feel pretty similar, I know with a 3500 it
sort of just slides a little from 3 to 4 at mid-
throttle.

The scanner should show you input & output
shaft speeds which will tell you for sure what
gear it is in the box, and engine RPM tells the
converter input so you can see whether it's
selecting (trans current gear), holding (shaft
ratio) and locking (RPM-input shaft).

well i just burnt up the 2-3 clutches today while doing the first nitrous test-pass on this trans . time for a rebuild, probably to 4l65e specs from a local reputable shop.

jimmy- it didn't seem to shift into od at all. even in od it would lockup in 3rd gear and act like od didn't exist. dunno, hopefully after the rebuild it is all good.

thanks for the imput though, im sure i'll be back with more questions . hell i might as well just pm jimmyblue since he is always the most helpful with this ****.
