how can i drain alittle tranny fluid
hey guys, i over filled my tranny less than a quart, is it critical to get the excess fluid out? is the best way to get it out w/o cracking the pan to put a tube down the fill tube and suck it out? 99 Z28 a4

I've "heard" you can disconnect the metal to rubber connection line under the front of the car. Never tried it so wait for someone more knowledgeable than me to verify before trying it. You sure it's overfilled? I had a hell of a time getting mine the right level after my TC/cooler install...kept having to add more.

im sure its over filled, ive put about 35 miles on it since i did the filter and out put shaft seal. the fluid level is about 1/2in over the full line on the dip stick. she runs fine though, shifts like a champ... well, as good as a 4L60-E tranny with 97K is able to...

If fluid is no more than 1/2 inch over the hot-full mark, and the fluid shows no signs of aeration/frothing, then it should be fine.
Otherwise could pump it out thru fill tube using hose (siphon is too hard, makes your face pucker up and turn inside out..., use fluid hand pump, $10 from local parts store), or allow to drain from cooler line; F-body return line has a hose with clamp, undo the clamp, point hose into bottle and let drain under gravity; remember to properly reconnect hose and clamp.
If you start it up with hose disconnected, have your buddy hold it into a bottle; it will drain about 2 qts (half gal) in 20-30 seconds, so be ready for it; remember to properly reconnect hose and clamp.
If trans is cold, use clear tube; if it's hot, better use fuel hose.

Before I got my trans pan with a drain plug, I used to suck it out prior to maintenance.
I have a steel 5gal bucket (w/lid) that I use for taking fluids in for recycling and I removed it into that.
I have one hole in the can that is a tight fit for the clear plastic tubing that I slip down the fill pipe. I place the hose to my shop vac over the spout on the can and let it rip.
Just takes a few minutes to get out the fluid and saves a lot of splashing when I drop the pan. It would work good for an overfill condition, as well.
I can't remember what size tubing I used, but it's cheap and you only need about 6-8ft.

I am going to try the hand pump thing with the tubing down the fill tube. I didn't overfill too much but I want to get a little out. I will keep in mine the idea with the bucket if I ever need to get alot out.
