Default stall converter with 273's

My 99 z28 has 273 rear end gears, I was wondering how effective a stall would be with these gears, and what size I should get, I was thinking 3500. any info or suggestions would be appreciated, and how bad would this affect gas mileage.

The stall, built trans, and speed inc basic tune (in sig) in my car took my 2.73 gear car from a 13.41 in the 1/4 mile down to a best of 12.68@105 on an MT drag radial. I hated the car before the stall with 2.73's.. dog slow of the line. Now with the stall I love the 2.73's.. great mileage and highway crusing plus it roasts the tires when I romp it form a standstill.

gas mileage will depend on what you do more of. I still average the same 18mpg mixed highway and traffic driving that I got before the stall. If you drive a lot in traffic the mileage will suffer with the stall.. on the highway though the mileage will not change at all.

My car had 2.73s in it when I put in my stall, TCI 3500-3800, and it worked out great and was very effective. I love the stall effect. Scared my uncle to death stomping it at 35mph and 65mph, would easily break the tires loose at either speed.

As everybody says, a stall will really help performance. It'll probably cost you 1-2 mpg in town and none on the freeway. 2.73's and a stall in town will probably feel loose, so be prepared for that. I like a tight feeling and changed mine out to 3.42's as most of my driving is in town.

Exactly..I had 2.73's with my 3500 & it was really loose, like the parking brake was on when you took off.Swapped in 3.42's & it felt much better

Are there still those dead spots around 40 mph with a stall? I know it will jump to the stall speed but will it actually pull hard?

No dead spots at all on my car. Jump on it at any speed and it jumps to around 3600 and goes like stink. It is loose with the 2.73's but nothing I don't mind at all. Its impossible to quietly acelerate from a standstill though becuase the car revs to 1800-2000 rpm easily. Reversing up the driveway is a noisy task now.. lol but it rolls forward when you take your foot off the gas unless you are on a really steep hill.

I have 2.73's also and was wondering what stall specs to go with. I was thinking about going with a 3800 w/ 2.6str...what do you guys think about those specs? The car has gone a best of 12.8 with the mods in my sig.

I had a 4200 stall with my 2.73's. Ran awesome at the strip and got 30mpg on road trips. Best ET was 11.94 with 1.66 60'. Stock Internal setup and 3400 race weight. Do the stall, you won't regret it.

100,000 miles with stock tranny and trans cooler. Shifted perfect when I swapped for a built trans.
