4l65e with b&m megashifter in 88 bird
whats up guys just gathering some more info for my 1988 firebird/ls1 conversion and this is what i have found a little info on this subject but not enough to say so. this is what b&m says:
GM - TH400, 350, 250, 200, 700-R4, 200-4R*
(* fits 4L60E & 4L80E with used with custom installation where an aftermarket controller is used to command the transmission.)
so this tells me it will work but my question is will efi live work as a aftermarket controller or do i have to buy a controller somewhere? or can a 4l65e be made to be mechanical like the 700r4? i have to have the trans built anyways and if its cheaper and can be made mechanical thats what i will do or if my efilive will work then ill use that. since the megashifter was desinged for a formula firebird i had to make it work when i had the 700r4 in there i might as well keep it in there. anyhelp would be great thanks!!

The shifter is designed to work with all GM transmissions, and the TH700-R4 is the old moniker for the 4L65E. They are essentially the same trans in regards to how the shifter interacts with it. Now as for as programming, yes the stock ECM will be able to control the 4L65E with no problems.

The tach has nothing to do with the trans, as for the speedo ... you just need to make sure the VSS pulse reference signal properly outputs the right signal for your MPH gauge. You will have to look that up, as I do not recall what the 3rd gens pulse signal is.

im sure my questions seem dumb to most but i just wana make sure i get it right.. is it possible to make the 4l65e a manual valve body. or i guess what im trying to make sure of is that i can make the 65e work without to much of a hassle with my megashifter. i am figuring that my efilive will work to control the trans but i wana make sure if not should i have my trans guy build the trans just as a 700r4 is so its not computer controlled? thanks for any help someone can give

Is there a gate plate for the 4 speed transor something like that? i am putting a 4L60E in my jeep but I ran into the same probs with B&M not stating specifically that it was for the 4L60E.
