not happy with Fuddle, now what
Mine never hit as hard as I'd like(3400/2.1STR), the first time I ordered they sent me out an LS1 converter, then they slapped one together for me and it wont lock up like it supposed to. With my new cam I was also wanting a larger stall, and I am thinking 3600-4000. What brand do you guys suggest? Yank or Vig and why?
Thanks
Thanks

Hark_Z, I'd definately look into a Yank SS3600-4000.

To the poster, why did you order a 3400 2.1 if you wanted a hard hitting loose TC?

My Fuddle didnt pull up high well compared to my friends Vig 3200 I noticed. I have searched but can someone just break it down to me, lower STR means it hits harder or how exactly does that work? My car is a weekend car that will see occasional track time, so all out performance is important. I do not want to go the cheap route this time and I am seriously looking into Yank converters now. Not sure what the PT/SS is and what I would need, (I assume SS =street/strip, PT=?) So as mentioned I am looking for a 3600-4000, I know alot of people run the SS3600 and are happy. Even though the stalls themselves might be different sizes, I am learning that they have very diff characteristics between 3600-4000 with Yanks product line. As my Fuddle goes.. I heard John has been in the hospital but I understand they have very understanding customer service and many people receive full refunds with them. I guess I'll have to check into it..Wanna go Yank.

Higher STR means it hits harder. Stall Torque Ratio is basically torque multiplication. Mine is a 2.5 so that means that it multiplies my torque by 2.5 times versus stock which is 1.7 I believe. So my converter will hit harder but be less efficient on the top end. Also, the higher STR's equal better driveability in that it takes less revs to accelerate. Lower STR's won't hit as hard, but are more efficient up top and take more revs to get moving. Higher STR's are great if you can hook. I wanted the higher STR because I drive a lot more on the street than at the track. And as for the higher STR's being less inefficient up top...Yanks are supposed to keep a lot of their efficiency as compared to other brands. If someone else can explain that better please do. I have been researching this for some time now and feel that I have a decent understanding.

^^ you know, I thought the same about my TC, since I do a lot of daily driving, I went with a 2.5 STR. I thought maybe it lacked some up top umphh, but according to datamaster, my TC is actually very efficient up top (comparing slip rpm to rpm) and when I locked it at the strip (if in deed it locked) I gained only a .20 of a mph.....

I have a 3500/2.0 and it still creeps at idle, cruises at
1500 and climbs hills at 2000. The lower the STR the
-more- low pedal coupling you have, but the more you
have to get into it to get max multiplication as well. It's
"stretchy". I never have understood the "loose" and
"tight" terminology. I chose mine to specifically -not-
hit the tires hard but it still will break loose past half
throttle or so, so no big loss there.
If you don't know what you want, you may not like
what you get. Regardless of price or the actual
quality of the piece.
