3600 Yank and built trans and currently run about 180 degrees and it takes awhile for it to get up to full temp aleast 15-20 miles in stop and go city traffic. 230 is way to hot. get a cooler with a fan on it. about 110 dollars and it will be worth every penny.
hope everything works out for ya

If you are reaching 230 degrees then something is wrong. Can you feel the converter lockup at highway speeds? The converter should lockup around 40-50 mph when the shifter is in Drive or Overdrive. If not, you may have a tuning issue or the lockup clutch in the converter is gone. I had a TCI SSF 3500 and the lockup clutch lasted two years. I can't bash on it, I was on the German autobahn most of the time.

I was told from the previous owner of this auto setup that it would normally run at 190-200 and he saw it go up to 230 once. Im in the process of an m6 to a4 conversion which will be done on tuesday. Im wondering if his gauge was messed up. The sender unit is in the pan, not sure if thats the best way of checking temp. He did say it would never lock up. Im going to have it tuned to lock so maybe that will help. Hopefully all is well even with it running hot for 3k.

I doubt the lock-up is tuned out of the computer. If it is not tuned out, then the lock-up clutches in the converter are probably worn out. I have had that happen to me before.
