How much hp can a stock 4l60 put to the ground before breaking. my new motor is going in this weekend and I need to make a decision on to go with a th-400 or 4l60. I know evryone is saying that isn't a hard decision at all. go with the 3 speed but I still need a converter, dipstick, driveshaft, and cross member for the 4l60 I have a tci 3000 stall converter and everything else I need to install. Let me know is it worth the wait for all my parts for the
th-400 or should install the 4l60 for now. I will not be able to get all my parts for the 400 for about a month and a half.

you wanna just drive the car or you wanna race it? it is starting to get cold out, maybe just go with the 4l60e and take it easy on the car/trans over the winter. you can race it but maybe no spray or really hard launches. then upgrade next year..

if you are gonna race it alot then i don't know what to say, some have had luck with the 4l60's but i have not. i would reccomend a turbo 350/400 for any type of real power output.

thanks for your input. I think I'm gonna use the 4l60 for now and then after the holidays throw the 400 in. thanks
