does this sound right?
i just called a local tranny shop, just to see how much it cost to get a tranny flush and stuff like that. he said its $104. he says what they do is, drain out old fluid, and have a machine flush it out with some stuff, that removes 99% of the filth or whatever.. i asked bout replacing the filter, and he said its not necessary if there is some sort of leak or something like that. does this sound about right as far as price, and the right way to do a tranny flush?

sounds cheap. but what kind of scares me, is the video of jiffy lube, they say they will use the machine to do a flush, but never even hook it up. Go some where you know is a good shop....

it cost's alot less when they pull the plug and just drain whatever is in the pan. that guy you spoke to said he will push the rest of the fluid (more than 50% of what the tranny holds) out as well.
just to put the fluid back in the tranny is expensive enough when you flush all of it out.

How can putting new fluid in your tranny be a bad thing? If you watch them do the work from start to finish you will come away knowing it was done. Flushing through the machine runs new fluid into the converter as well, just dropping the pan doesnt! Have them do the flush but before you go, open the hood and get familiar with the car, know where the lines that go from the tranny to the cooler are at so you know what should be taken off when they do the flush. There's nothing wrong with having someone work on your car if you dont have the time or resources, just keep an eye on whoever is doing it. Walk out into the shop and shoot the **** with the guys doing it, let them know your watching so they dont screw you!

The reason most places don't change the filter because that involves dropping the pan and getting a little messy. They charge you 150.00 or so and hook a machine to your cooler line, press a few buttons and let the machine do the work. I done several of those.
I have complete flushed my tranny in my old 95 silverado at 175,00 before and had no trouble, but I had always kept the fluid changed. It finally wore the 1st cluch pack out at aroun 220,000 or so. I still change my fluid in my 94 gmc (4l60e) and it has 130,000 on it with no problems. Just my .02
