Default headers causing heat issues with tranny?

A tech a local race shop told me that bolting on headers to the block can cause tranny problems. Has anyone heard of this? Im hitting the rev limiter before it drops into 1st rolling at about 20mph. I do not believe the previous owner had it tuned and im short the $500.00 he wants to take care of it. Any suggestions, advice or input?

Though while true headers in close proximaty to the transmission can cause it to run warmer , its unlikley that is your problem , I would suggest a tune and or scan
