Default Shift Kit

Is a shift kit needed with a converter swap?

The car in question is a 05 GTO with the L65E trnismission and the LS2 engine.

The converter going in is a Yank SS3600.

A shift kit is not required though it does make the transmission feel and perform much better with a high stall converter

Will it last longer with a shift kit? Or would it put too much shock to the internals of the transmission?

The L65E is supposed to be beefer already. I will be adding the 24K B&M super cooler to keep temps inline.

Thanks for your help.
