That is how it is programmed. It will unlock if you go over a certain throttle percentage (takes quite a bit, 50-100%), fall below a certain speed (35mph in OD) or use the brakes.

If it didn't unlock, your motor would be killed if you came to a stop, the same as not pushing in the clutch with a manual.

so this is normal, like when im driving at 45mph and the TC is locked up, when i give it gas it wont kick down, it will just stay at the locked RPM and i cant speed up, but it will unlock if i go 3/4 throttle and over and kick down so i can speed up.

Yup, what you described is normal behavior. It needs quite a bit of throttle to unlock at highway speeds. That is all tuneable though.

but it seems like it just started doing it? and when it kicks down it gows down to 2nd and RPMS raise to 4k RPM which i dont think it should, i think it should go down to third smoothly and raise a few hundred RPM to allow me to speed up which is like what all other cars do?. i guess its just me though

I check with one of the shop mechanics (20 year trans vet) and he said it sounds like a electronic or computer problem.

you need to take it to a good shop. the tranny fluid should never smell burned. the least you will do is flush the transmission (not just a trans service a full 16 quart change with a cleaner additive). good luck

will a hand held tuner read those codes? when we hooked it to my friends handheld tuner and it showed a MAF sensor, torque converter lockup, and a o2 sensor code. The MAF sensor code is from my K&N oil from the filter, and the o2 code is from me not having cats. Its had those codes for a while. then just the other night it started acting up and showed the torque converter code. Any one else got any suggestions before I pull the transmission this weekend?
