Default Manual shift w/stall?

My friend has an 82 Camaro. He manually shifts it, and he says a stall might also help him. I don't think he's right...so what do you think?

It's a turbo 350 or 450, it's a three speed. He bought some type of shifter now for it.

Well if the governor is not calibrated correctly and it shifts too early on automatic shifts, then manual shifting it at the top of the powerband might be beneficial. Stall is always a +.
