how much hp and tq can a stock th400 hold?

i have seen stock th400 (with a fresh stock rebuild) go 9s all day in 3500 lbs cars. put a good valve body and a good set of clutches from a tranny shop and you are fine.

You should also install an aftermarket intermediate drum & sprag. Since thats the weakest link in those trannys.

Default th 400
just get a truck trans, no shift kit and just hook up the electric passing gear and it will handle 500lbs. of torque.
