Default tranny cooler qustion

I have a 98 z and Im replacing the trans because my old one BURNT up and I was wondering when I install my new trans cooler should I route the lines straight to my new trans cooler or through the old one and then into the new one and back to the trans. It is the big cooler form B&M. Thanks for any input.

I would run it through both. It will just keep things simplier, otherwise you are leaving open holes on your old one, and that could get build up in it and who knows after that. Besides, two is always better that one hup hup. Unless of course its a kidney removal...

I bypassed my stock cooler and only run a B&M 24K and my temps with my old 3500 stall stayed around 150-160 while cruising and 180 or so in traffic. I don't know yet with this 4000 stall since I only installed it yesterday, but they seem to be slightly warmer.

I have a B&M 24K, mounted "dope style" horizontally on the passenger side - didn't bypass the stock cooler.

Which is your B&M model cooler? 70264?

One more vote for bypassing the factory cooler and just running the aftermarket cooler.

I just had the same problem. This time i'm bypassing the stock cooler. I was talking to a speed shop and they told me that when you run the B&M in line with the stock cooler that you aren't really going to get the trans temp much cooler your coolant. Maybe that's why our transmissions have both blown.

thats what ive been saying!

unless your car is running sub 170* temps your stock cooler will have little to no effect trying to cool the trans fluid.

But the cooler does help when its -10 outside, because it WARMS the trans fluid.

It never gets near -10 down here in florida. But now Im waiting on my trans to come in so I can finish this thing up. Im wanting to see how cool the B&M cooler keeps the temps with a 3500 stall. I drive my car hard and if it gets to hot I thought about running two coolers.

Well the trans as you know is on the way and I would bypass the cooler for sure in Florida and use the largest possible i like fluildyne , And place in a place with good low speed air flow or install fans on it in the land of perpetual summer
