important question about stock performance numbers
the auto trans 1998-2002 trans am is slower 0-60 stock than the m6 version, all things else the same. I have read it before and I remember it being significant. Let me know exactly, and please provide proof because my friend (mustang lover) doesnt believe me. thanks

okay guys, i found once source modernracer.com/pontiacfirebirdtransamws6.html
the guy still doesnt believe me. I am not one to just be correct and go about my business. so please if you have proof in website form, or timeslip, whatever.... adirect comparison. I know the 15% loss of power, and all that. He thinks its slower but only minimally. As in 5.0 vs 5.15 or something like that. I cant get it across. i need an overwhelming amount of proof. please SOS help me.

He's probably right about it being minimal. Depending on what review you read, some listed the A4 as faster to 60. It depends on the driver and conditions and such. There isn't a real answer....although technically the M6 should be faster, the A4 is generally easier to launch and cut a better 60' with. Not sure what answer you are looking for, but that's the best I can do.

Stock from the factory I don't think there is a large difference in the 60-foot times, I thought the reason the M6 beat the A4 to the end of the 1/4 mile was the acceleration after the launch. Not having torque management, a heavy slug of a converter and sloppy shifts slowing you down certainly helps.

i can tell you this your friend is basically right. Stock for stock auto vs m6 is about .2 or so sec difference in the 1/4. I base this off of tons of posts from people listing their stock 1/4 mile times. Stock a4 times are around 13.4 give or take a few tenths depending on year and the location. Stock m6's run 13.2 giver or take a few again depending on year and the location they race.. See for your self and do a search for stock 1/4 mile times and see for yourself... Now dont get me wrong there are a few m6's that have clicked off 12.9's but thats rare.

60' should be very comparible. But like previously stated the 1/4 mile times favor the manuals. There are two reasons:
1). Manuals eat up less HP. A lot of debate goes on as to what the percentage is but figure the manual is about 5% more efficient then the autos.
2). Gears. All the manuals came with 3.42 gears where the autos were either 2.73 or 3.23's.
The bottom line is the manuals are about .3 - .5 faster then the auto when "professionally" driven. But that is probably why your buddy does not believe it. Autos never miss a shift, never shift early, ect. So often times the auto will tie or win when the manual is driven by an average or below average driver.

Yep, your friend is right. No significant difference on average. There is very little difference stock for stock M6 vs A4 with the LS1 F-bodies. With an excellent driver, the M6 will be only marginally faster in all respects (0-60mph, 0-100mph, 1/4 mile ET, etc.). The 3.23 A4 will of course have a stronger launch than the 2.73 car though. However from a roll, there are instances where the 2.73 car will have an advantage over the 3.23 (due to downshift points and dead spots).
