Default 4l60e woes

I'm having trouble with my 2000 GMC Sierra 1500. When it down shifts from 4th or 3rd at about 80 km/hr, it revs to 5400-5500 for a second to 2 seconds, before grabbing. When this happened, I took to a trans shop. They hooked it up to a scanner and , shaking their head sadly, said, "Yup, it needs re-building." So, $3000 later, the trans does the same thing. The shop pulls it 3 times and replaces different parts, this on top of the rebuild. Same problem. The tranny guy says that sometimes a bad chip, tune, etc. can cause this. So I get a tune from Nelson Performance. Same problem. I get a stock tune. Same problem. The truck shows no codes, so neither the trans shop or GM knows what to do. HELPPPPPPP!! Does any one have any suggestions? Thanks for reading this far, Michael

is the grab like a rev followed by a sudden bump it may be the input sprag I have seen them do that and holding them in your hand feel perfect , I do not think its a tuning issue .

It revs high for a second or two and then grabs pretty aggressively. I don't think it is doing either the engine or the trans any good.

This guy was having the same problems, so I e-mailed him. He said that the tech figured the solenoid was bad. They did a rebuild and changed the solenoids and it has been good ever since. I went to the trans shop today and he said he had changed all the solenoids, too.

well I would say the input sprag is a good possibility, I would ask if it was replaced. and no it isnt good for the trans, But I do want to ask ae you sure it isnt kicking all the way down to 2 then back to third or is it a free rev?

It seems like a free rev. When it grabs, it is at 4500 or so, then it shifts into 3rd, then 4th.

i would have to go with input sprag letting go , there are many possibilites but that most likley , now have you tried kickdowns in the d position to see if you can make it do anything like that

I did change the TPS in September. I haven't checked it since then. The original was really worn, so I thought I had found the problem. However, it hasn't gone away. The trans shop thought it was trying to go to first, now that you mention it. I remembered that, when I was towing, I thought I would downshift manually to avoid the high revs but it still flared up, although not as long. Thanks for letting me pick your brain, Michael

But I am looking , most likely, for an electrical gremlin then? More like faulty wires or a solenoid or a bad ground?

Yes, I made that mistake. I was in a hurry (only had a week) and paid a shop to do it. I'm still on warranty, so I want to get the problem solved. It especially pisses me off that I paid the money to fix a problem and it was never solved. I wish I could go back and start over. I usually do my own repairs and would have loved to install a performabuilt tranny.
